Frantically Googling to find their perfect present, shopping trips scheduled for this week and next, but their Christmas list just doesn’t seem to be getting shorter…not all of us are gifting experts you know.
We have lots of luxurious gifts to choose from at The Ministry of Biscuits, but there's a simple solution to Christmas shopping. Simply follow the Biscuiteers 4 gift rule guide, great for budding bakers, cooking enthusiasts and foodies.
What is the 4 gift rule?
The 4 gift Christmas rule is a gifting technique that aims to simplify present buying. Instead of scrambling to fill their stockings with lots of bits and pieces, it focuses on gifting four meaningful presents that hit these four key categories: Something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read.
Read on to discover how to approach each category as well as some thoughtful gifting suggestions from our biscuit gifting experts.
1. Something they want
This part of the four gift rule is usually the ‘big’ present your loved one wants to receive. Ask them to note down their top 3 options which you can then pick from, the surprise aspect is our favourite part of this gift. Although it’s at the top of the list, we think you should leave this one (the best) until last to open.
One thing we know everyone wants this Christmas is our bestselling Nutcracker Biscuit Tin. As seen on TV (You can read more on that here), there’s a reason this collection is so popular, inside the tin you’ll find a perfectly hand-iced biscuit ballet, complete with the much loved characters of the Nutcracker. This gift will be a definite want for someone with a sweet tooth.
2. Something they need
This one is somewhat self explanatory, but usually it’s the more practical gift on their list. Something that will make their life a little easier, or the item they’ve been neglecting to buy for themselves.
At Christmas time, this might include all the supplies they need for the parties and events they have planned over the festive period.
That’s why we’d recommend our Winter Wonderland Hamper. Perfect for those with large families or lots of seasonal parties to plan and cater for, our Winter Wonderland wicker basket is generously filled with absolutely everything they’ll need for any festive feast over the Christmas period.
What you'll find inside the hamper:
- Christmas Chocolates
- Say Cheese! Tin
- Christmas Pudding
- Christmas Spice Shortbread
- Christmas Present Jolly Ginger
- Gingerbread Icy Christmas Biscuit Tin
3. Something to wear
A little more luxurious than the usual socks or underwear, focusing on treating them to one item to wear allows you to get something special they’ve had their eye on for quite some time.
If it’s a budding baker you’re buying for, our Biscuiteers Apron is a perfect gift to wear. This 100% cotton apron with pockets is finished with our iconic shop from design - perfect for the messiness of starting a new hobby in the kitchen.
4. Something to read
From an entire book series that will keep them busy all year long, a magazine subscription relating to their much loved hobby, or the latest release from their favourite author - there’s lots of ways to approach this gifting category.
If it's a hobby you're focusing on, our Biscuiteers Book of Iced Gifts is the ultimate book for cooks, creatives and biscuit lovers alike. Inside they’ll find plenty of icing inspiration and 60 step-by-step creative projects for every gifting moment you can imagine.
The 5 gift rule
Adding to the infamous 4 gift rule, the 5 gift rule notes ‘something to do’ as the fifth and final guideline for gifting. Experiences are always a great gift and often pose the opportunity to do something together with the family, be this tickets to a show or sporting event or even a trip out of town.
If it’s a visit to London you’re thinking of gifting, why not add a stop at one of our biscuit boutiques to the agenda. Both of our icing cafes in Belgravia and Notting Hill host a range of memorable experiences. From School of Icing classes hosted by our master icers, to delicious Afternoon Teas complete with perfect patisserie and delicate finger sandwiches, you can even pop in for a DIY icing session - no need to book!
If you want to give an experience but aren’t sure of the recipient's availability you can always treat them to one of our gift voucher experiences. Simply choose one of our wonderful classes or events and they can book for a time that suits them!
