Ahhh is there anything more nostalgic than an iced party ring biscuit? They feel like a naughty treat, only allowed for special occasions. Our homemade party ring biscuit recipe is from our ‘Biscuiteers Book of Iced Biscuits’ and is a great baking activity to enjoy with kids or make brilliant, quick and fun edible gifts.
2) Choose your favourite circle cookie cutter and get cutting, not forgetting to cut out the middle too, then place your biscuits on a pre-lined baking tray.
4) Bake in the oven at 150 C / Gas 2. for 14-18 minutes until golden brown.
5) Remove the trays from the oven and transfer the whole sheet of parchment to a cooling rack. Leave to totally cool before starting to ice.
Decorating your biscuits with royal icing:
Here comes the fun part; decorating the biscuits withflood and line icing. We used ice blue, pink and pastel paste colours to colour the royal icing.
1) Use your line icing (it should be smooth and thick, a bit like the texture of toothpaste) to ice around the circles edges to create a ‘wall’ for the runny icing.
2) Once the edges are dry (about 10 minutes in room temperature) use a runny royal icing to flood the biscuit.
3) Use a complimentary colour and ice horizontal stripes on the biscuits, then using a cocktail stick, drag vertical lines through the icing in alternate directions. This will create the feathered effect that is iconic on a party ring.
4) Put all your finished iced biscuits back in the oven for 30 mins (set to the lowest temperature it can go). Don’t worry, the biscuits will not cook any further or burn, the low heat simply sets the runny icing to give that professional, glossy look.
5) Serve on a platter with glasses of milk for the ultimate vintage tea party.
