Are you planning a special party for the opening of the Olympics in Rio this year? Why not make these Olympic biscuits which have been iced and finished with special metallic paint. We think it'd be so fun to give them out as party favours!
Time to start baking:
1. We used our easy vanilla dough recipe to make our biscuits, and used basic circle cutters to get the medal shape. Don't forget to make a generous sized hole so you can thread your ribbon through later.
2. For your royal and line icing, use our simple guide to biscuit icing. You will need light grey and ivory for the flood and light grey, white and ivory for the line. We use professional paste colours when mixing both the flood and line icing.
3. Carefully ice the outline of the circle using the ivory line icing, followed by a small circle around the hole in the biscuit.
4. Let the line icing dry for 10 minutes at room temperature, then fill with the flood icing.
5. Set your oven at the lowest temperature, we recommend around 50°C-70°C and put then pop the biscuits into the oven for 30-40 mins minutes to dry.
6. Using metallic food paint, paint onto the biscuit with a paintbrush to make your biscuits shine like real medals. You can also use an airbrush if you're making a big batch of these biscuits. Metallic food paint can be found in most crafting shops or cake decorating sites online.
7. Leave the metallic paint to dry for 10 minutes before icing on your numbers and the circle around the edge of the biscuit. Again, leave your biscuits to dry at room temperature, make sure the icing is dry and hard when you touch it.
