Celebrating the launch of our Dogs Trust collection we thought we should give ourselves time to 'paws' and let you make one of our Digby biscuits for yourself! Using a classic vanilla biscuit base, learn how we line and flood ice our biscuit creations. Feeling creative? Change the colour of Digby’s collar, add some extra accessories or you could even give him spots!
Watch our step by step video on how to use the flood and line technique to decorate your very own dog.
1. Make your biscuits by using this easy vanilla dough recipe to create your biscuit base and cut with a dog shaped cutter. These cookie cutters are widely available or you can simply make your own.
2. Outline your Digby biscuits using beige line icing and leave to dry for around 10 minutes at room temperature. This line will form the wall, which will make sure your flood icing stays in place.
3. Flood your biscuits using your runny icing using one of these squeezy bottles. You can use the nib of the bottle to help guide the icing into place. Burst any air bubbles with a cocktail stick.
4. Place the biscuits in the oven which will need to be pre-set at 50ºC, and place your iced biscuits into the oven for 40 minutes, or until the icing has set hard. Don’t be worried about putting the iced biscuits back in the oven. The oven will not cook the biscuit further. We use ovens to speed up the drying process and create a glossy, smooth finish on the icing.
5. Once the icing has set hard, and they are cool, you can add the details on top; add some furry texture, his ears, eyes and nose, as well as the all important yellow Dogs Trust collar. Let these set for 5-10 minutes at room temperature and there you have it, you're very own Digby! Feeling inspired by this post and want to ice some more?
